Slow Cooker Apple BBQ Beef

This easy slow cooker apple BBQ beef needs just five ingredients and hardly any work. Frozen beef roast cooks slowly with sweet apple pie filling and tangy barbecue sauce until it’s soft and full of flavor. A cozy, simple dinner your whole family will love.

There’s something so comforting about a slow cooker dinner that barely needs any help from you but still turns out soft, rich, and perfect for hungry tummies. It’s made by mixing simple foods from your pantry with a good chunk of beef, and it ends up tasting like you spent all day cooking, even though you didn’t. The apple pie filling may sound like a funny thing to add, but once it cooks, it melts into the sauce and gives the beef a gentle, fruity sweetness that pairs perfectly with the barbecue flavor.

This yummy beef is great spooned over creamy mashed potatoes, buttery egg noodles, or a warm scoop of rice, so nothing goes to waste and every bit of sauce gets soaked up. You could also stuff it into toasted sandwich buns with some coleslaw on top for a fun twist. If you’re planning a bigger, Sunday-style dinner, try adding green beans, roasted carrots, or a cool cucumber salad on the side to balance out the rich, sweet taste.

Servings: 6

Ingredients

  • 1 frozen beef chuck roast (3 to 4 pounds)
  • 1 can apple pie filling (about 20 to 21 ounces)
  • 1 cup barbecue sauce
  • 1 packet onion soup mix (about 1 ounce)
  • 2 tablespoons apple cider vinegar

Slow Cooker Apple BBQ Beef: Directions

  1. Grab your frozen beef chuck roast and set it right in the bottom of your slow cooker. You don’t have to wait for it to thaw first — it can go in frozen.
  2. Open your can of apple pie filling and spoon it evenly over the top of the roast, covering as much of the meat as you can. Next, pour the barbecue sauce over the top, followed by the packet of onion soup mix and the apple cider vinegar.
  3. Place the lid on your slow cooker and turn it on. Cook it on LOW flame about 8 – 10 hours, or on HIGH heat for 5 – 6 hours. You’ll know it’s ready when the beef is super soft and pulls apart easily with a fork.
  4. Grab two forks and shred the beef right there in the slow cooker, pulling the meat into small, bite-sized pieces. Stir everything together so the shredded beef gets coated all over in that tasty sauce. Let the beef rest for about 10 minutes so the flavors can blend together nicely.

Serve the hot beef over mashed potatoes or noodles. You can also put it on sandwich buns and enjoy. Don’t forget to drizzle a little extra sauce on top right before you serve it!
