servings: 6
Ingredients
- 6 frozen beef burger patties (about ⅓ pound each, 80–85% lean)
- 1 cups bottled steak sauce (like A.1. or your favorite brand)
- 1 large yellow onion, thinly sliced
- 8 ounces of sliced mushrooms (use fresh mushrooms, or canned mushrooms that have been drained)
- 6 hamburger buns, for serving
How to Make Slow Cooker Steakhouse Burgers
- Set up the slow cooker. Sit your slow cooker on a steady, flat spot on the counter and switch it to the Low setting. Give the inside a light coat of nonstick spray before adding anything — this makes washing up much simpler afterward.
- Layer in the onion. Scatter the thin onion slices in one even layer over the bottom of the pot. This layer builds flavor from the ground up and keeps the burgers from sticking as they cook.
- Stack on the frozen patties. Arrange the frozen beef patties over the onion in a single layer. It’s fine if a couple edges overlap slightly when space is tight, but avoid piling them on top of one another so each patty cooks through evenly.
- Top with mushrooms. Sprinkle the sliced mushrooms across the patties, letting a few tumble into the gaps between them for even coverage.
- Drizzle with steak sauce. Give the steak sauce bottle a good shake, then pour it slowly and evenly over the patties, onion, and mushrooms, circling the bottle so every patty gets soaked. This step is what builds that signature steakhouse taste as it simmers.
- Cover and let it cook. Secure the lid and cook on Low for 5 to 6 hours, or on High for 3 to 3½ hours, until the burgers are fully cooked and reach an internal temperature of 160°F (71°C). Resist lifting the lid during cooking — every peek releases heat and slows things down.
- Lift the burgers out. Once cooked, gently slide a spatula underneath each burger to remove it, since the meat will be quite tender and can break apart easily. Stir the rest of the onions and mushrooms into the sauce. Mix them well, then spoon the tasty sauce over the food before you serve it.
- Toast the buns, if you like. Pop the hamburger buns under the broiler or in a toaster for a minute for extra crunch before assembling.
- Assemble and serve. Place a burger on each bun, top with a spoonful of the saucy onion-mushroom mixture, and add whatever extras your family enjoys — cheese, lettuce, pickles, and so on. Serve immediately while it’s all warm.
