Slow Cooker Comfort Chicken: This easy chicken dinner is perfect for a busy night in late summer. It takes ideas from the creamy, yummy meals that families loved cooking in slow cookers back in the 1960s. With just a few pantry items and raw boneless skin-on chicken breasts, you get a warm, cozy meal without much work at all. It’s cheap, simple, and so good that it might become one of your family’s favorite meals to make again and again.

Serve this saucy chicken on top of warm rice, buttery egg noodles, or soft mashed potatoes so you don’t waste any of that tasty sauce. To make it a full meal, add green beans, steamed broccoli, sweet corn, or a fresh salad on the side. If you want that cozy, old-fashioned feel, warm dinner rolls or fluffy biscuits are a great match too.

This creamy slow cooker chicken brings back cozy, old-fashioned flavors with almost no effort. Just five simple ingredients combine into a rich, savory sauce that turns plain chicken breasts into a comforting dinner. It’s perfect for busy weeknights, budget-friendly, and pairs wonderfully with rice, noodles, or mashed potatoes for a filling family meal.

Ingredients

  • 4 raw boneless skin-on chicken breasts
  • 1 packet dry onion soup mix
  • 1 can condensed cream of mushroom soup (10.5 ounces)
  • 1/2 cup sour cream
  • 1/2 cup chicken broth

Slow Cooker Comfort Chicken: Directions

  1. Spray the inside of your slow cooker with a little nonstick spray if you like. Lay the raw chicken breasts flat in one even layer at the bottom of the slow cooker so they cook evenly.
  2. Grab a medium bowl and mix together the dry onion soup mix, cream of mushroom soup, sour cream, and chicken broth. Stir well until the mixture turns smooth and creamy with no lumps.
  3. Pour this creamy sauce evenly over the chicken breasts. Use a spoon to make sure every piece of chicken gets fully covered in the sauce.
  4. Put the lid on the slow cooker. Cook on LOW for 5 to 6 hours, or on HIGH for 2 1/2 to 3 1/2 hours. The chicken is done when it’s soft, tender, and fully cooked through.
  5. Once done, spoon extra sauce from the pot over the chicken. Serve it hot next to rice, noodles, or mashed potatoes, along with your favorite vegetable side.
