Servings: 4
Ingredients
- 4 bone-in pork chops, roughly 1 inch thick (2 to 2½ pounds total)
- 2 large apples, cored and cut into thin slices (around 4 cups)
- 2 medium yellow onions, sliced thin (around 3 cups)
- 1 cup apple juice or apple cider
Slow Cooker Apple Onion Pork: Directions
- Before you begin, give the inside of your slow cooker a light spray with cooking oil, or wipe a small amount of oil around it using a paper towel. You can skip this step, but it will make washing up afterward much simpler.
- Place the thin onion slices down first, spreading them out evenly to cover the whole bottom of the slow cooker. This creates a flavorful layer for the pork to cook on top of.
- Next, lay the apple slices evenly over the onions so the onions are fully hidden underneath.
- Now set the pork chops on top of the apple and onion layer. Push down lightly so they’re settled in nicely, but keep most of the meat visible rather than covering it completely.
- Slowly drizzle the apple juice or cider over everything in the slow cooker, allowing some to seep down through the layers to the bottom.
- Secure the lid on top. Let the dish cook on LOW heat for 6 to 8 hours, or switch to HIGH heat for 3 to 4 hours, until the pork is so tender it starts falling away from the bone.
- Before serving, spoon out a little of the sauce to taste it. Feel free to sprinkle in some salt and pepper at this point if you want extra seasoning — this part is entirely up to you.
- When you’re ready to serve, use a large spoon or spatula to carefully take each pork chop out of the slow cooker. Top each one with plenty of the tender apples, onions, and sauce, then bring it to the table warm, straight from the pot.
