These slow cooker relish hot dogs bring back old-fashioned, budget-friendly cooking with just four simple items. Juicy sausages soak up sweet relish and tangy mustard as they slowly cook to perfection. It’s a no-fuss meal perfect for busy days, family dinners, or game nights when you want something warm, easy, and full of flavor.
These slow cooker relish hot dogs bring back the smart and simple cooking style from the Depression era, when people used a few cheap pantry items to make filling meals. Back then, families didn’t have money for fancy ingredients, so they found clever ways to make plain food taste special. This recipe does just that. Sweet pickle relish adds a tangy, slightly sweet taste and keeps the sausages moist while they cook slowly in the crockpot. The relish also forms a shiny, tasty coating on top of the sausages. This is a great recipe for busy weekdays, football game days, or any time you want a warm, filling lunch without standing over the stove.
You can serve these relish hot dogs on soft buns with a side of potato chips, baked beans, or a simple cabbage slaw for a classic, budget-friendly meal. They also taste great with dill pickles, yellow mustard, and a spoonful of potato salad. If you’re feeding a big group, set out extra toppings so everyone can build their own hot dog straight from the slow cooker.
Servings: 8
Ingredients
- 8 frozen raw beef Polish sausages
- 1 cup cheap sweet pickle relish
- 8 hot dog buns
- 1/2 cup yellow mustard
Slow Cooker Relish Hot Dogs: Directions
- Prepare the slow cooker: Spray the inside of your slow cooker with a little non-stick cooking spray if you want easier cleanup later. Then, place the frozen beef Polish sausages inside in a single, even layer so they cook evenly.
- Add the toppings: Spoon the sweet pickle relish evenly over all the sausages, making sure each one gets some. Then drizzle the yellow mustard on top so the sausages are nicely coated with both the relish and mustard.
- Cook low and slow: Cover the slow cooker with its lid and cook on low heat for 4 to 5 hours, or until the sausages are fully cooked and hot all the way through. If you can, gently turn the sausages once or twice while cooking so the relish and mustard coat them evenly on all sides.
- Serve and enjoy: Once the sausages are done, place each one inside a hot dog bun. Spoon some of the warm relish and mustard sauce from the slow cooker over the top. Serve right away while hot for the best taste.
